Excellent. You’ve captured the essence of liberalism which is eternal compromise of principles in the name of political expediency. For centrists there are no overriding principles only political manoeuvring. For them politics are amoral. Then the Left is blamed when centrists lose elections to the Right who have their own principles.

Agree with the column, and would have posted on FB, but not comfortable with the Lenin bust.

The fetish for purity & permanence became a perversion, allegedly.

Eugenics as a form of class warfare? Doh…

Eugenics goes with fascism so it would make sense.

Going by the opening explanation of purity it is quite ironically liberalism that is the one seeking purity, that's why they try keep us marginalised people to the margins because they can't have our matter (so to speak) anywhere near their matter of power.

"Even if someone comes up with something we consider pure or uncontaminated and original"

Original doesn't mean uncontaminated. Nor does being being inspired.

When you use solutions and solvents to create a substrate, you want that substrate to be as pure as possible. Helps with reproducability of relevant experiments too, so one could actually say that purity retreats from originality.

Principles are indeed an iteration of purity. The two are not opposed at all; they go together.

Both sides of the political aisle are equally evil. The two party trick is done.

Beautiful article. Your words should be given to every high school student in America (well, and every adult too).

The right has an advantage, because they're unified by greed. The left's

disadvantage is that we're divided by the willingness of some to tolerate it and unwillingness of others expose it.
