Vaccine misinformation is an epidemic that has been plaguing our society. This rampant problem can decrease the intent to vaccinate, leading us further down an unproductive path toward preventing diseases like vaccine-preventable ones such as whooping cough or influenza A(H1N1). In fact there's even some evidence it might be responsible for inducing many people into feeling hesitant about getting vaccines altogether!
So, what can we do? We need to focus less on Instagram for information about covid-19. There are many wonderful fact based accounts but they're only trustworthy because they cite the primary literature. Hopefully by focusing more attention onto research itself - which is more factual even if not popular at any given moment or time--we might bypass some detrimental misinformation that's out there right now regarding this virus
