Too often knowledge is a way to dominate. When I share knowledge others go ..."you think you're better than me?" Maybe it's assumed all knowledge is elite. Heh.
Information without organization is near meaningless. ...and yet I persist.
Not be pedantic but it sounds like philosophy does matter, you picked one and used thought to come up with a reason as to why you should go with it. To me, the most interesting part of what you've written here is your belief that the point of philosophy is self reflection....I've just never heard that one before personally. I agree that a lot of leftists get lost in theory and many develop an ego about it. I think the real problem you were running into was asking "what is true" when you should have been asking "what sustains liberation, interrupts systemic evil, restores humanity, generates meaning" type questions. Then taking practical action towards whatever that is which seems to be Marxism for you. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Marxism more of a political ideology than a personal philosophy? I'm not deep into Marxism but my understanding is that it doesn't tell you how to live.
Great point, I guess it feeds into the elaboration of my first point that philosophy matters more to a point. For me the point was self reflection for what really matters and just choosing a philosophical approach based on that reflection. As far as your question about political ideology vs personal philosophy. There are a ton arguments basically making the point that there is very little distinction between the two as the political ideas you hold will influence certain facets of your personal life. Marxism comes from philosophy, philosophy can definitely be political. In my opinion, the distinction between philosophy and politics is arbitrary as the two overlap so much. Marx unironically makes that point as well, the distinctions between disciplines aren’t as clear as we think they are.
There was this documentary i watched years and years ago, cant remember the name of it. But the people in the documentary had never seen society the way it is now. They were nomadic and untouched for the most part by 20th and 21st century politics and technology etc. They were asked what the meaning of life was, and they said "MEAT" lol. Which ya know at the end of the day is just a sound bite...it could mean all sorts of things. But idk i think it is true. Philosophy and even so called spirituality has never helped me properly assess or override the fact that i am mortal, i have to eat and have to act more than find the right words, in a world full of semantic fog.
