About Jae’s Thoughts

“Empathy is a special way of coming to know another and ourself, a kind of attuning and understanding. When empathy is extended, it satisfies our needs and wish for intimacy, it rescues us from our feelings of aloneness.” - Carl Rogers (1902 - 1987)

What is compassion?

Like Rogers and others, I wish to teach people about empathy and compassion. Compassion has a long history stemming from psychology and is needed now more than ever in the modern world. But what does it mean to be compassionate or empathetic? Hopefully, this newsletter can shed some light on the subject.

Curiosity

It is important to make space for learning and knowing more. This newsletter seeks to inspire curiosity in other people, their subjective experiences, science, and how to improve society at large.

Human Psychology

I initially fell in love with psychology because I wanted to understand how the human mind operated. I learned through my studies individuals are capable of profound reason as they are blatant ignorance.

I want to explore what makes people think the way that they use what we know from the social sciences. Many of the conclusions we arrive at are not from using empathy, critical thinking, or understanding. We need to challenge and ultimately change this dynamic.
